I will fully admit, I love going to sex toy shops. Besides being in a dungeon, they’re one of the few places in the world that I feel normal.
In my travels, I’ve found a lot of shops – some good, some bad. But there have been more than a few that I found to be absolutely amazing, and/or became speci to me for one reason or another.
If you’ve ever chatted with me, you know that I’m a pretty private person, keeping things close to my chest. However, I’ve decided to share a few of my favourite sex toy shops with you that I think you should probably visit sometime. And because new sex toy shops open all the bloody time, I’ll likely make a new list in the future.
With all this said, let’s get started!
M’s – Tokyo, Japan
Located next to Akihabara Station in Tokyo, M’s is a seven-stories fun land, filled with adult videos, toys, and even used panties. Personally speaking, the best way to check out their shop is from the top down – like really nice cleavage.
The top three floors are all DVDs. Seriously, ALL THE DAMNED DVDs. Whatever your pervy heart can think of, from hentai to mature mother big titty milk porn, you’ll find it there.
On the fourth floor you’ll find all your cosplay-esque needs. I bought a couple of schoolgirl uniforms which set me back about ¥3,500. On the third floor, you’ll find two rooms of women’s lingerie. It’s not quite Agent Provocateur (another store you should check out), but it’s pretty damned nice nonetheless.
All of the things you’d think would be in a sex shop is on floor two – vibrators and dildos, whips and masks, and a ton of ball gags.
And finally on the first floor, it’s all about fake vaginas and arseholes, with each one claiming to be the most realistic experience a penis could ever have.
You can check out M’s website at www.ms-online.co.jp.
Pleasure Chest – USA
With five locations throughout the United States, which includes stores in New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago, The Pleasure Chest has made quite a name for themselves as far as sex toy shops go.
I’ve visited the NYC locations and one of the Chicago locations. The stores all had a really classy look to them you’ll notice as soon as you walk in. They also have a good selection of books, but they all seem to be geared toward women, because men don’t read, I guess. I’m not a fan of novelty sex – well, anything to be honest – but if you’re into that, then they sell those, too.
The staff in both locations were helpful and friendly across the board. So even if you’re a newbie, you won’t feel awkward at all.
Some locations may not have everything that you’re looking for. But no worries, you can check out their website – which has a LOT more than the retail shops – at www.pleasurechest.com.
Taboo Tabou – Chicago, IL USA
Located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood since 1988, Owner Alexis Thomas’ Taboo Tabou is a shop in Chicago that specialises in lingerie and sex toys.
The store has more of a boutique feel to it when you walk in, which is a bit different from the other sex toy shops in the area. The staff is pretty knowledgeable about the items they sell, which includes lingerie, pin-up inspired clothing, bondage and fetish gear, and a lot more.
They also have a lot of really nice handmade and one-of-a-kind items that are only available in their store – which you should definitely check out if you’re ever in the area.
You can check out Taboo Tabou’s website at www.tabootabou.com.
Lover’s Lane – USA
Located primarily in the Midwest, Lover’s Lane is one of those stores that are really good for newbies to BDSM or kink in general.
I’ve visited several locations throughout Chicago, and have found that most of them don’t carry much that would do more than tickle more serious players, but some locations do sometimes have items that may indeed surprise you.
The Lover’s Lane website seems to have slightly more than you’d find in their retail shops. You can visit the website at www.loverslane.com.
Adam & Eve – USA
Like Lover’s Lane, North Carlolina-based Adam and Eve is a really good sex toy shop for kinky newbies. The company sells just about any sex toy that you can think of – dildos, bondage, vibrators, cock rings, lingerie, lubes, oils and more.
With over sixty locations throughout the United States and Canada, you might want to have a visit if you’re nearby.
If you don’t live near one of their retail locations, you can always check out the Adam and Eve website at www.adameve.com.
The Stockroom – Los Angeles, California, USA
I have no other way to say this – I LOVE this shop. The Stockroom is one of the oldest online sex toy shops in the world, and was honestly created with the BDSM community fully kept in mind.
I had a chance to visit their shop in Los Angeles, and while not overwhelming, I definitely felt a kid in a candy store.
From floggers to rope to chastity belts, this shop has more products than I can list and if you’re ready to take your toy bag from basic to badass, The Stockroom should be one of the first shops, if not THE first shop you should check out. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.
If you’re not able to visit their shop in LA (which is likely because they’ve only one shop), they pretty much have everything (and more) on their website at www.stockroom.com
Coco De Mer – London, England, UK
If the Marquis de Sade and Queen Elizabeth designed a sex shop, the result would likely be Coco de Mer. Founded by sisters Justine and Samantha Roddick – daughters of the woman who created The Body Shop – this place is by far the classiest shop I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. I’ve visited their shop in London, and it looked sophisticated as hell – and I would have expected nothing less.
Coco de Mer is easily the most expensive sex toy shop on this list. It goes without saying that the shop sells some REALLY nice toys in their shop, vibrators, rulers, cuffs, floggers and more. Most people would likely feel like they immediately can’t afford anything they offer. I saw a lot of items by Irish designer Paul Seville, which included some AWESOME leather-handled whips made with human hair. The most popular colour they sell is the red-headed one – because gingers are sexy.
Seriously, I felt like I needed to sell a kidney just to walk into their doors. But if you can easily afford anything – then we need to hang out.
I really wanted to check out their Los Angeles shop – but it was permanently closed when I went out there. I’ll try to check out their Manhattan location one day.
Check out the Coco De Mer website at www.coco-de-mer.com.
Harmony – London, England, UK
I think Harmony was one of the first sex toy shops that I ever visited. The 20+ year old shop does a wide range of adult toys, underwear, magazines and videos. Harmony has a great selection of all sorts of things from leather, latex, rubber and PVC, as well as potions and lotions, dolls, couple kits and fetish items. Though not inexpensive, all the products are pretty good quality.
The service can be a bit rubbish at times, but for the most part the employees are nice and attentive. it’s still one of my favourite sex shops – if only for the sake of nostalgia.
Harmony has two locations – one on Oxford Street and the other on Charing Cross Rd. You should check them out if you’re ever visiting, and feeling a bit touristy.
You can visit the Harmony website at www.harmonystore.co.uk.
LoveHoney – Online
Ah yes, “the sexual happiness people.” Even though it’s not a brick and mortar location, Lovehoney is still a great place to shop, which is why they’re on my list of sex toy shops. They carry a ton of branded toys, as well as others.
Lovehoney unfortunately loses points for being the official licensor for Fifty Shades of Grey merchandise. Just saying.
You can visit the LoveHoney website at www.lovehoney.com.
So what do you think of my list? Have you visited any of the shops that I mentioned? If so, leave a comment. I’d love to hear your experiences!
